Singapore River – The heart of a nation

A sprawling and glistening river that reflects the impressive and thriving modern cityscape on either side, the Singapore River is a part of Singapore that both exhibits natural beauty and practical functionality. This river is intrinsically tied to the history of Singapore and it was around this significant body of water that the city thrived from its humble origins.

With Singapore being primarily a port it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the river played this vital role with both incoming and outgoing trade regularly gracing its waters. While the importance of sea travel has declined somewhat with the advent of air travel, it still plays an important part in the economy and some of the most expensive and prominent land is still found near the site of the original port.

The primary draw of the Singapore River is in its scenic beauty which is a calming and refreshing venue that is also home to several other attractions. Numerous highlights are located on either side of Singapore River including the vibrant areas of Clarke Quay, Boat Quay and Robertson Quay, all of which are ideal for travellers looking for entertainment and dining options.

Other attractions that are housed on the banks are Parliament House, Raffles’ Landing Site, City Hall and Merlion Park which are all extremely popular amongst tourists. Several museums are also housed here including the Asian Civilizations Museum in addition to various religious sites such as Omar Kampong Melaka Mosque and Tan Si Chong Su Temple.

Travellers have the option of either strolling down the banks or opting for a boat ride in its very midst. Visitors need not worry as there is a choice of boat services on offer many of which allow passengers to get off at the various destinations along the river to explore whilst saving valuable time. When choosing a hotel in Singapore, travellers will find that Copthorne Orchid Hotel Singapore offers an accommodation option that is replete with an array of amenities coupled with an exemplary level of service.
